Petition
*We have decided to put together this spur of the moment short post in order to give you important information, and an opportunity to make a difference*
Recently the ICCSD Committee of Change learned about three bills (proposed laws) in the Iowa Legislature that are against LGBTQ+ rights, or more specifically, the rights of trans-youth. We were all outraged at this; why would anyone suggest such a thing, much less propose it to become a law! ?
One member, Sybil Gitau, started a petition against one bill in particular, HF193. We have gotten many signatures, [as of 2/4/21: over 18,500 signatures!] and continue to get them. Due various reasons, we will not keep a running tally or how many signatures we are at on this post. We keep getting so many it’s impossible to stay up to date! The link to the petition is below, as well as more information about it
The Bill: House File 193
The bill that this petition is fighting against is HF193 (HF = House File). This bill proposes a law that would ban those who are transgender from certain types of health care, as well as it would legalize conversion therapy, which can sometimes be dangerous and/or abusive.
***This bill was proposed by Sandy Salmon***
For more information on the three bills, all proposed by the same person, that discriminate against those who are transgender, you can look at this slide show we have put together. About the Bills (anyone with an ICCSD email account may view it)
About the Petition
This petition is trying to fight against it and to keep the legislature from passing this discriminating bill and making it a law. Out first goal is 100 signatures, but we will keep increasing the goal until we have a much larger and significant amount to show. [Goal as of 2/4/21: 25,000 signatures!] We hope you consider signing it to make a difference and let your voice be heard!
Thank you for your consideration, and have a nice rest of your day!
